We had an spooktacular day in Second Grade. Students started the morning reading and making their trail mix for our afternoon snack. Students were part of the planning the week before and voted on the parts of the trail mix. The winning snacks were crackers, pretzels, popcorn, mini-Oreos, M &Ms, and Cheeze-its. After the trail mix was made students did some Halloween Math. We enjoyed playing games, practicing using odd and even numbers with partners, and making a symmetry pumpkin project.
We talked more about scary stories in writing (Don't worry they aren't too scary!) and read The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything. We looked for sight and sound words that helped make the story interesting. We will work on that next week with our personal stories. After lunch we got ready for the party and enjoyed the four classes with different rooms (group games, board games, building, and crafts). Students returned to our room and ate our yummy snack-trail mix, applesauce, and pop. We had fun playing Bingo and shared our Halloween plans and favorite part of the day. It was an awesome day!
